In memory of
|
A generous heart, genius researcher, caring father and husband - words fail when it comes to describe Dr. Khan. He dedicated his entire life to improve the life of others and promoted science throughout his career. He contributed to the society endlessly till the very last minute of his life.
He was working as the Coastal Capture Fisheries Specialist at FAO, United Nations, Bangladesh. On March 19, 2014 on his way back from a field trip in a rural area he left us very suddenly. This website is dedicated to hold the memories of him, share his scholarly contributions and advance the scholarship in fisheries by supporting Dr. Gias Khan Memorial Scholarship. |
Personal Life and Education
Dr. Giasuddin Khan was born in the village of Chandiber, Kishoreganj on 30th November, 1953. As meritorious as he was, the boundary of a small village could not hold him from getting exposure to the whole world. He completed his Bachelor's and Master of Science degree in Marine Biology, Coastal Fisheries Biology from the University of Chittagong. Later during his professional career, he accomplished his PhD degree in Fish Population Dynamics from University of Dhaka in 1999.
Even though he was very young, he served as a freedom fighter during the independence war of Bangladesh in 1971. Therefore, he dedicated his whole life for the betterment of his own country. He believed in promoting higher education and science, and that hard work and diligence can make everything possible. He himself is a remarkable example of that, which gave him recognition in national and international scholarly societies.
He left a beautiful family of a wife and three children. But he embedded his values into his children and we would carry his words throughout our life. Therefore, we are funding a scholarship in his memories. He was a loving father, the best we could ask for and while it is heartbreaking to not have him among us anymore, we will always be proud to be his children.
