Public message from the Bay of Bengal Programme Inter-Governmental Organisation (March 20, 2014)
"BOBP-IGO loses a friend
We deeply mourn the passing away of Dr. Md. Giasuddin Khan. Known to his friends as ‘Gias’, Dr Khan was instrumental in development of the fisheries sector in Bangladesh and will also be remembered for his significant contributions at national and international levels in understanding and addressing challenges in coastal marine fisheries.
...."
Dr. A N M Azizul Islam Khan, friend and colleague of Dr. Gias Khan who was by his side until his last breath
"It was may be very early 2014 (Jan/Feb) we were enjoying a cultural program from local singer at Kuakata Sea Beach. Dr. C S Karim attended and he was interested for the unscheduled program. It was too cold and I was wearing only a jacket. No cap or no tie. He realized the strong wind of the sea beach might having sufferings for me. Sometime he engulfed my head & neck by his own scarf. He said, “I have many warm cloths over my body”. His feelings were so heartfelt. I could not forget this moment.
I am so grateful to him.
He was my senior colleague in DoF and I learned many things from him on Capture Fisheries. Yes, he was so smiling and sweet speaking man. "
